And I Was a Boy From School

I was thinking about this song today and had a flash of memory about how much I love this music video.  Gotta love Hot Chip!

Prada Spring 2010

Genius. A nice change in silhouette from the fall collection.  I really loved the raw edge detail that ran throughout the show.  I also really loved the emphasis on the back that was given through volume, which is also something that was presented in the Alexandeer Wang collection.  There's a definite California coolgirl vibe going through the collection which was really brought out through the styling, hair, makeup, and those AMAZING prints!

Good Hair

I saw this preview today and felt I needed to post it on the blog.  Definitely going to need to watch this film when it's released!

Also - If you're in the LA area or will be soon, you should definitely check out the pop up store in Space 15 twenty.  It's pretty amazing!  You can see pictures here -

Paintballers Creating Pop Art

Pretty amazing video of paintballers shooting at a canvas to create a rendition of Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe pop art print.

GIRLS - Laura

Live performance from my favorite band of the moment - GIRLS.  This is one of my favorite songs off of their new album, the appropriately named Album.  The song is named "Laura"

I Can't wait!!!

I really need to see this movie.  Los Abrazos Rotos, or Broken Embraces by my all time favorite director, Pedro Almodovar.  Penelope Cruz is, once again, the lead actress and Pedro's muse.  It will be released stateside November 20th, 2009.

Crazy in Love

Antony and the Johnsons with their rendition of "Crazy in Love" originally sung by Beyonce.  I actually think I prefer this version.  It gives the lyrics a very dark twist.

Erdem Spring 2010

I've really loved Erdem for the past couple of seasons.  I know that it's a departure from what I normally love, which is a bit more hard edged, slightly futuristic and androgynous, but I really love the femininity that Erdem puts into every collection.  Also, the craftsmanship is impeccible!  The pieces are all gorgeous, from the applique floral dress the show opens with to the printed silk tee and skirt that closed the show.  Love it!

I heart Wang

Obviously I'm just starting to post on my blog, so I'm reverting back and wanting to focus on a couple of my favorites from New York Fashion Week Spring 2010.  Alexander Wang did not dissapoint this season.  There were definitely still some body con styles in the mix, which he did so well for his Fall 2009/010 collection, but there was a definite feel of true sportswear in this collection.  Also a nice mix of fabrications, great use of leather, and great knitwear in this collection.  I especially loved the use of heathered knitwear and loved the draped back jackets!  Also, the motorcycle boots were to die for!

Song of the Moment

Girls - Hellhole Ratrace.  Their album "Album" was released yesterday.  Pick it up, it's worth listening to.

Silver Lining

This video and song best sum up the way I feel about my recent life experiences.

Hooray, Hooray
I'm your silver lining
Hooray, Hooray
But now, I'm gold

Christopher Kane 2010

It's very fascinating for me to watch a young designer who is allowed is creative freedom to grow. Christopher Kane has been showing at London Fashion Week for a couple of seasons now, first starting with an incredible collection that looked as if Gianni Versace and Herve Leger had a child and decided to mash both of their design asthetics together to dress the future. Since then, he's shown everything from prairy girls in shadow plaids, to Planet of the Apes dresses and, in his resort 2010 collection, showing atom bomb cloud prints on dresses and jackets. I am really intrigued by his blend of inspirations and love that he's created a vocabulary for himself. This is what every major designer does for themselves, but I don't think I've seen it fully evolve the way it has for him. For Spring 2010, Christopher Kane showed a very interesting mix of plaid dressing, cutout dresses and separates, and a mix of body con dressing along with pieces that were more subdued and had an inderlying sexuality to them, very much along the lines of what Prada would do. He took all of his previous collections, mashed them up, and moved his vocabulary forward. It was refreshing, but at the same time another piece to his puzzle.

Rodarte Spring 2010

Loved this collection. It's not a huge departure from what Rodarte has done for the past three seasons, but I really love the mix of fabrics, the element of destruction, and THOSE NICHOLAS KIRKWOOD'S!!!

A Single Man

I'm sure most of you have already seen this, but I still love it.
